Jaime Muinguia vs Nikita Zon Poster

WBA Super Middleweight Title

I favor Jaime Munguia here because I expect his pressure to become harder for Nikita Zon to manage as the fight goes on. That doesn’t make Zon an automatic win. He’s a southpaw with a reported professional record of 12-0-1 and 10 knockouts, and BoxRec lists 87 amateur bouts. He brings more experience than those 13 professional fights suggest. The question for me isn’t whether Zon can box. It’s whether he can keep scoring when Munguia makes him work through repeated exchanges.

Munguia’s reported 46-2 record with 35 knockouts gives me more to judge than Zon’s 13 professional contests and 67 rounds listed by BoxRec. I don’t pick fights by counting wins, but I do care about what a fighter has shown over a long professional fight. Munguia has the stronger body of evidence. I’m not assuming Zon’s 10 stoppages translate into the same success against him.

The Bruno Surace rematch in May 2025 matters to my pick. Munguia won a unanimous decision after being knocked out in their first meeting. I don’t take that as proof his defensive problems are gone. I take it as a reason to believe he can apply pressure without forcing every exchange. That’s the version I’m backing: busy enough to win rounds, but patient enough not to give Zon unnecessary openings.

Why Zon Shouldn’t Be Dismissed

Zon’s listed 187-centimeter height and southpaw stance give Munguia something to adjust to. I respect the 10 professional stoppages, but I wouldn’t call him the harder puncher on that number alone. The opposition matters. His draw with Odiljon Aslonov and stoppage win in their return meeting show progress. They don’t settle how he’ll handle Munguia.

I wouldn’t mistake a short professional record for a lack of ring experience. BoxRec separately lists amateur and IBA-pro appearances for Zon. That background deserves respect, but it isn’t the same as proving he can win this matchup. I want to see how his skills hold up when Munguia keeps the exchanges going, not just whether he looks comfortable early.

How I Expect the Fight to Develop

I expect Zon to have opportunities early. Munguia may need a few rounds to judge the southpaw angles, and cleaner punches could give Zon a share of those rounds. I don’t see this as a fight where the favorite automatically takes control at the opening bell. Munguia has to earn that control.

The middle and later rounds are where I lean more firmly toward Munguia. I expect his sustained offense to give him more chances to score and keep Zon working. Pressure alone doesn’t win rounds, and a busy combination means little if it misses. Munguia still needs clean connections. My pick rests on him producing those more consistently as the fight develops.

What Could Make My Pick Wrong?

The first Surace fight is why I won’t call this a certainty. Munguia’s résumé doesn’t protect him from a defensive mistake. If Zon keeps landing clean counters and breaking up his offense, Munguia may struggle to establish the rhythm I’m expecting. There’s also less evidence about Zon at this level, so he could be better than this assessment allows. I favor Munguia, but Zon has a way to make the pick wrong.

Final Prediction: Jaime Munguia by Unanimous Decision

I’m picking Munguia by unanimous decision after a competitive start. I expect him to pull ahead as his pressure and sustained offense become the more consistent features of the fight. A stoppage is possible, but I’m not making it my main call on the evidence here. My decision pick comes down to Munguia doing more clean scoring work over the full fight—not simply having the bigger name or longer record.

My pick: Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision. I expect Zon to have moments, but Munguia to do the more consistent scoring work.

Munguia Win Probability: 7/10 (70%)

My subjective estimate of Munguia winning by any method—not betting odds or a statistical model.

Fight-status note: The matchup is listed for October 31, 2026, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. However, October reporting stated that the WBA had not approved Munguia–Zon because of Munguia’s mandatory obligation to Bektemir Melikuziev. What this could potentially mean is still up for grabs.
